Testing of Community Masks

In view of the rampant Covid-19 pandemic, consistently worn face coverings for everyday use make an important contribution to keeping the infection of other people and thus a further spread of the corona virus as low as possible.

Hygiene masks and community masks for private use are in widespread use around the world, and wearing them in public places is a legal requirement in many countries and regions where the number of Covid-19 infections is increasing rapidly.

In order for community masks to contribute efficiently to more hygiene and for the wearer to use them for longer periods of time, certain quality characteristics must be met. We test the function and material properties of your face coverings according to international standards and based on our unique textile expertise.

Testing according to CWA 17553:2020

With CWA 17553:2020, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) has established minimum requirements for the design, performance, packaging, labeling and use of community masks.

Within the framework of these guidelines, we test your masks for properties such as breathability as a benchmark for wearing comfort, washability for intended multiple use, fit and filtering performance. In addition, we examine the labeling and packaging with regard to material composition and care instructions, as well as the comprehensibility of usage and warning instructions (e.g. the distinction from medical face masks and FFP masks).

Hohenstein Quality Label „Tested Community Mask“

With our label you can advertise the high quality of your community masks at the point of sale in a way that is clearly visible and easy to understand for the buyers. The basic package includes testing for breathability, washability (including colour fastness), fit and compliance with legal requirements for textile products.

However, our quality label can be flexibly expanded, for example to include testing for harmful substances in accordance with OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 or the exclusion of a cell-damaging effect in line with the specifications for medical products.

Attract attention! Communicate the neutrally tested quality of your community masks directly on the product!
